Navajo Early Childhood Programs

The Navajo OSERS program includes additional early childhood services supporting families with young child(ren) ages prenatal up to eight years old, depending on the program. These programs provide early childhood and family education, support, referral, and connection through direct and indirect services with families residing on and near the Navajo Nation.
Navajo Project I-LAUNCH
A program promoting healthy social-emotional development for children ages prenatal to eight years old and their families to thrive in a safe and supportive environment. The program offers:
  • ⦿ Professional development on infant and early childhood mental health topics.
  • ⦿ Positive Diné Parenting classes that blend traditional Diné values with present-day skills utilizing ICWA’s Positive Indian Parenting Curriculum.
  • ⦿ Referral based Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation open to early childhood centers/programs, providers, and families.
  • ⦿ Resource connection utilizing the Navajo Nation Early Childhood Resource Map

Navajo Nation Early Childhood Collaborative (NNECC)
Navajo Nation Early Childhood Collaborative (NNECC): A coalition that uplifts and supports the early childhood community/system on the Navajo Nation and surrounding areas. The NNECC meets monthly (virtually & quarterly in-person) on the second Friday of each month. The meetings are to network Early Childhood Stakeholders and community within the Navajo Nation to collaborate collectively to promote Early Childhood Awareness giving opportunity for partnership for resources, referrals, and support for programs and Navajo families with young children.

Support  Coordination Services

Family Support Coordination: The Family Support Coordination provides support to families with children ages birth to age 5 who are experiencing risk factors by assisting them in understanding, navigating to and accessing services that promote family well-being. Many families experience challenges accessing timely and effective services to meet their needs. Family Support Coordination provides families with an intensive, short-term strategy to provide support and assistance in accessing services to meet their needs.

Developmental & Sensory Screening
The Developmental and Sensory Screening program provides routine and age-appropriate screening for children birth to age 5, not yet enrolled in kindergarten, within the Navajo Nation to support the early detection of developmental delays, vision, and hearing challenges. The grant also provides parent information on the importance their child’s development while also being culturally relevant to families on the Navajo Nation. ​
