Independent Living Program

The purpose of the Independent Living (IL) program is to provide services to eligible Navajo persons with significant disabilities so they can achieve greater levels of independence and self-sufficiency to enhance quality of life in their home, community and environment.

  • ⦿ Person-centered support and services.
  • ⦿ Navajo Healing Services (Restoration)
  • ⦿ Empowering IL consumers to maximize their independence.
Program Services
  • ⦿ Information and Referral.
  • ⦿ Counseling and Guidance services.
  • ⦿ Advocacy.
  • ⦿ Adaptive devices and equipment (i.e. grab bars, handrails, ADA toilet, ADA sink).
  • ⦿ Ramp for accessibility.
  • ⦿ Native Healing Services (Restoration).
  • ⦿ Provide resource information on accessible housing services, accessible transportation, and other support services.
  • ⦿ Independent Living skills training for persons who are deaf, blind, or visually impaired.
Eligibility

To be eligible for Independent Living Services:

  • ⦿ Be an enrolled member of the Navajo tribe.
  • ⦿ Age 80 years old and under.
  • ⦿ Must reside on the Navajo reservation.
  • ⦿ Have a significant mental or physical impairment that limits their ability to function independently in their home, community, and environment or engage in employment.
  • ⦿ Independent living services are required for the individual to achieve a greater level of independence.
